ASATA Power is a San Francisco Bay Area–based, all-volunteer grassroots organization organizing South Asian communities to build power, advance progressive politics, and win collective liberation.
We organically emerged from 25 years of work that our sister organization, the Alliance of South Asians Taking Action, has done in the Bay Area to build a cultural home for progressive South Asians, and campaigns and coalitions that have paved the way to victory. We’re here to expand our collective power, work with and hold our elected officials accountable to care for our communities, and help grow our voice.
Our work is member-organized and member-driven. We come together across differences of caste, class, faith, nationality, ethnicity, and migration status to confront systems of oppression and extractive power and to build real alternatives grounded in care, solidarity, and justice.
We organize not just to respond to harm, but to transform the systems that create it.
Our organizing is guided by shared political and organizational values:
We represent South Asian diasporas that shape our lived experiences and inform our vision.
We strive to be multi-class, multi-caste, multi-faith, multi-national, and multi-ethnic, building power across differences.
We work to challenge U.S. imperialism and its consequences.
We build and nurture alliances with international and local collectives working toward collective liberation.
We root our organizing in historic and current resistance movements, contesting conservative narratives within our communities.
ASATA Power mobilizes and organizes South Asians toward collective liberation from oppressive and extractive systems through explicitly progressive policies and politics.
ASATA Power is an all-volunteer, grassroots collective.
Our leadership and organizing structures are collaborative and rotating. We do not center individual leaders; we center collective power, accountability, and shared responsibility.
