ASATA Power is a San Francisco Bay Area all-volunteer grassroots group working to organize Bay Area South Asian communities in order to build power and hold our institutions accountable.
ASATA’s work is member organized and member driven.
Ultimately, we are working together to build a future in which all people - South Asian communities and beyond - are free, are safe to live, and where we have the tools to dismantle the systems that isolate us and create real solutions to meet our needs.
As an all volunteer, grassroots organization, our work is driven by a core set of values and a set of political values that we use to organize our work and ourselves.
ASATA Power’s purpose is to mobilize and organize South Asians in the Bay Area toward our collective liberation from oppressive and extractive systems through explicitly progressive policies and politics. As we do this, we acknowledge that we:
As we do this, we acknowledge that we come from a lineage of South Asian diaspora - that shapes our lived experiences and informs our progressive ideologies.
We work to be multi-class, multi-caste, multi-faith, multi-national, and multi-ethnic, transnationally fighting US imperialism from within the US.
We build and nurture alliances with international and local collectives that share our goal of collective liberation.
We root ourselves in historic and current resistance movements to inform our shared priorities, and contest conservatizing narratives in our communities
Launched in 2024, ASATA Power developed and distributed a values-aligned voting guide for local elections in 2024; and are a core convener in a national pan-South Asia progressive working group; and are actively working to counter policies and actions that are harming our communities.
